Hello Everyone!

So , here we have another lesson on improvisation , which is one of my favorites subjects of study. There is this quite ''off'' statement that improvising is just ''making music out of nothing'' and while that is partially true , we need some strategies and tools in order to be able to properly adjust and function over different musical situations.

The more tools we have in our ''improvisational toolbox'' the better we will perform over different ''problems'' that may arise when connecting harmonic changes.

Today I want to talk about three of them:

  • Common tones.
  • Rhythmic Repetition.
  • Contour and Melodic direction.

The correct application of these three core concepts are even more important than playing the ''right notes'' as they will give meaning to your musical sentences.
